Just created this custom page non_image_attachments.php
It shows non-image attachments in decending download count order.
So top on on the list that belongs to Custom Font topic is

with over 6,800 downloads....
Congratulations....it's the most downloaded ever.

How do you explain a post to have more downloads than views?

Do downloads via links on external sites also count?

Of course, a post has, for example, 100 views and 500 downloads (fictitious example). How would this have happened?

Yes you're right any downloads that goes to the file directly will increase the download count without visiting topic.
